Gwyn Williams Charitable Trust For Young Viola

A new Charitable Trust is being set up by Stephannie Williams,  the widow of Gwyn Williams,  dedicated to her husband’s memory and his legacy of profound viola music accomplishment.

Gwyn joined the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) in 1965 under Hugo Rignold followed by Louis Fremaux and was later appointed principal viola by Sir Simon Rattle.

The trust’s mission is to give financial support to young viola students (aged from 13 to 22 years). This could be a contribution towards buying a better instrument, a subsidy towards the cost of lessons or a contribution for more advanced study.

A concert to launch the Trust will be held on Sunday May 28th at 7.30pm at Birmingham Town Hall.
